About the event

The performance not only reflects the melting away  of pack ice and sea level rise, but also noise pollution and the earth's resilience. In 2022, the performance was developed by the Taiwanese composer I-lly Cheng for and with Céline Papion as part of the “Sonic Ocean Project”. The sounds used are all based on field recordings by Dr. Anthony D. Hawkins and the IFAW/MCR “Song of the Whale” team.  I-lly Cheng has developed an instrument that enables the performer Céline Papion to let the element of water speak like an oracle. With live electronics by Oliver S. Frick, equipment by Hudda Chukri and video projection by Adrian Schmidt, the performance creates an intimate and focused moment for the audience.

It invites you to sharpen your ears and eyes, to concentrate your hearing on the sound of the smallest drop of water and your vision on a piece of melting ice. At the interface between science, nature conservation and art, the artists address the beauty and strangeness of the acoustic underwater world and make the urgency of the problems and our responsibility towards them tangible.
